Phnom Penh Governor, Commissioner Fined for Not Wearing Helmets

PHNOM PENH: Phnom Penh Governor, Khuong Sreng, and Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner, Sar Thet, have done the right thing and paid their respective traffic fines. The two turned up at the Dangkor Police Inspectorate on Wednesday morning to pay their 60,000 riel fines. They’d been criticised on Tuesday for not wearing helmets when riding motorcycles while leading the intervention force to check the flood situation along the Prek Tnaot river in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district.

They’re not the first high-ranking officials to be fined for not wearing a helmet. Back in 2016, Prime Minister Hun Sen was fined 15,000 riel, under the kingdom’s previous traffic law, for not wearing a helmet and for riding a motorbike which did not have a licence plate.
